Journal with Marcus is made by Neul Space Ltd, a small company registered in England and Wales, number 15195236. It is not paid for by advertising, and nothing about it is paid for by anyone's data. The company is not a health provider and does not claim to be one.
Why
Journal with Marcus is a private journal grounded in Marcus Aurelius's Meditations. You write what happened, and the app finds the passage that speaks to it, quotes it as he wrote it with the book and section, and asks you one question about what you wrote. What you write is not posted to a chatbot: the passage and the question are found on this device, and nothing you write leaves it unless you switch a feature on. It is not a quote app, not a way to read the book, not therapy, and not a conversation. One passage, one question, then back to your day.
Because Meditations was a journal. Marcus wrote it to himself and never meant it to be read, and what he wrote about was what had happened that day: who had been difficult, what he had put off, what he was afraid of. A notebook gives you a blank page. A quote app gives you a line chosen for nobody. This is an attempt at the thing in between, where what you wrote meets what he wrote, and you are asked one question about it.
The point is not to collect Marcus. It is to notice your own judgements, and over months to see which ones keep coming back.
The text
Every passage is George Long's translation of 1862, taken from the Standard Ebooks edition and shown as written, with the standard book and section numbering so that it can be found in any copy. It is not modernised and not paraphrased.
