What does the app do when an entry is more than a bad day?
When what you write reads as a risk to you, the app will stop the ordinary reflection. No passage, no question. It will show a short message and the numbers above, for your own region, and it will keep what you wrote. You can go on writing, and nothing is locked.
The check runs on your device, before anything else, so that nothing has to leave it to be read. It is a floor and not a guarantee: it will sometimes miss, and it will sometimes fire on an ordinary sentence. It is not a way of watching over anyone, and the app is not a substitute for a person who can.
How do I get my journal out?
Your journal will live in the browser on the device you write it on. That is the whole of where it is: this website holds no journal, and nothing can be recovered from here. So the copy you take out is the only backup there is, and the app will make taking one out a single tap from the first week.
- The archive: everything, for putting back into the app on another device. Encrypted with the same passphrase.
- Plain files: one Markdown file per entry, readable with no software at all, for keeping.
- A file another journal app can read, for leaving. It says what it loses.
What if I forget the passphrase?
The passphrase is the only key. There is no account behind it and no reset, so nobody can recover a journal whose passphrase is lost, including us. That is what makes the journal yours. At the start the app will offer a recovery phrase to write down and keep somewhere else. With it, losing the passphrase is not losing the journal.
What if the browser clears its data?
Browsers can remove a site's data when space is short or when you clear it yourself. The app asks the browser to keep the journal, and most honour it, but taking a copy out is the answer to this too. Take one out when you have written something you would mind losing.
